Yalta is a dramatically handsome resort city, located 79 km south of Simferopol. Population: approximately 150,000.
Exposed to the sun, washed by gentle waves of the Black sea, sheltered by the Crimean mountains from northern winds, Yalta is always full of charm and attraction.
Picturesque landscapes, unique monuments of nature, history and architecture - all this is Yalta. Average July temperature is +24C, while average February temperature is about +4C.
Here you will find beautiful summer palaces of Russian imperial family surrounded by numerous parks, here grows sun kissed grapes of which world-famous wines are produced. The vast Nikitin botanical garden boasting more than 28000 varieties of plants is situated quite close to Yalta. The town is famous for its beautiful embankment along the Black Sea. People can be seen strolling there all seasons of the year, and it also serves as a place to gather and talk (actually the place "to see and to be seen"). There are several beaches on left and right sides from embankment. In the evening during the high season the seafront is alive with street musicians (some are very good), knife-jugglers, fire-eaters, caricaturists and artists. You can have yourself photographed in 18th century costume or on the back of a Harley Davidson, or with a live snake coiled round your shoulders. There are some big night-clubs and small discos all around Yalta. Most of them can be found on the same embankment. Yalta has a movie theater, drama theater, concert hall,zoo, several casinos, plenty of restaurants with english menus. Bustle and colour of Yalta's markets are not to be missed too.
Yalta came to worldwide attention in 1945 when the Yalta Conference between the "Big Three" powers - the Soviet Union, the United States and the United Kingdom - was held at the Livadia Palace.
